Israeli Hospital Portal Not Loading Abroad? How to Get Your Discharge Letter and Scans

Is your Israeli hospital's patient portal not loading? In our check on 23 October 2026, the portals of Sheba, Rambam and the government hospitals on the Apollo platform didn't open from abroad, and for Assuta not even the home page did. Through SuperStableVPN, with an Israeli IP, they opened. To receive SMS codes you will also need an Israeli phone number.
Open your hospital portal with an Israeli IP: free for 3 days, no credit card required. After that it's 17 CAD a month (about ₪36), taxes included, and only if you choose to subscribe. You'll need the free OpenVPN app: we send you a configuration file and instructions, you connect and open your hospital's portal. There's no separate app of ours to install.
What you need from the hospital after a move
A new doctor abroad usually asks for what the hospital holds, not the health fund. According to the hospitals themselves, the medical records department issues (Sheba, in Hebrew; Rambam, in Hebrew):
- the discharge letter after a hospital stay (סיכום מחלה / מכתב שחרור) and clinic visit summaries;
- surgery reports and pathology results;
- lab and other test results, including imaging reports;
- the full hospital file.
Much of this is also in the hospitals' patient portals, free. For what to bring a new doctor from your health fund, see Israeli medical records for a doctor in Canada.
How the logins work
- Sheba Connect: your ID number, mobile and a one-time code by SMS or voice message; details in Sheba Connect not loading abroad.
- Rambam4U: according to Rambam, you register through the government identification system with your ID number, a mobile for the code, and a credit card or passport number. The service is free and personal: only the patient gets their data, and parents for children under 18. Discharge summaries from hospital stays and the ER and test results are there from 2012 on (Rambam, in Hebrew). The government identification itself opens from abroad today (gov.il from abroad); it is the Rambam4U site that is closed. For trouble with the government login, Rambam sends you to the government line, 1299.
- Apollo (Wolfson, the Galilee Medical Center, Hillel Yaffe, Shamir, Poriya, Ziv, Bnai Zion, Barzilai, Mazor, Abarbanel): according to Hillel Yaffe, you log in with the ID number and mobile you gave on admission. The website link shows only that hospital's data; to see other government hospitals you need the Apollo app, where you choose the hospital. Results appear about 24 hours after a test (Hillel Yaffe, in Hebrew). We found the Apollo app in the Israeli App Store but not in the Canadian or US ones.
- Assuta: the whole site didn't open from abroad, so we couldn't read how its login and records requests work.
- Clalit's hospitals issue documents through the Clalit personal area, which is also closed from abroad; see Clalit Online not loading abroad.
Ichilov and Shaare Zedek opened from abroad in our check. That is today: Israeli sites change access rules without notice, and a portal that opens today may close tomorrow. Hospital documents are usually needed by a certain date, and hunting for a VPN in a hurry then, buying one after another, is no fun. It is calmer to set up an Israeli IP in advance and, on the day, just press "Connect".
What you can do without the portal
From public sources — Sheba medical records, Rambam medical record copies, Hillel Yaffe on medical documents (in Hebrew):
- Sheba: emergency room documents from [email protected], outpatient clinic documents from [email protected]; ₪10 for the last 5 years, extra for older ones. The hospital's website opens from abroad today, and the records department page has request forms (Sheba, in Hebrew).
- Rambam: request from [email protected] or through a digital form, outpatient clinic documents from [email protected]. Attach a copy of your ID and a signed medical confidentiality waiver; the site has an English version of it and an English power of attorney. The fee follows the Health Ministry tariff. Phones +972-4-7772874, +972-4-7772875, +972-4-7773278, Sun–Thu 9:00–13:00, fax +972-4-7773207. Complaints go to Rambam's public complaints commissioner: +972-4-7771421, [email protected] (Rambam, in Hebrew).
- Hillel Yaffe: for a document outside the system, email [email protected] (Hillel Yaffe, in Hebrew).
- Ask your new doctor. Hospitals also take requests from a treating doctor; at Sheba, on the clinic's letterhead with the doctor's signature and stamp, to [email protected] for hospital stays.
How to log in with an Israeli IP
- Sign up for SuperStableVPN: 3 days free, no card needed. Install the free OpenVPN client on Windows, macOS, iOS, Android or Linux and import the configuration file we send you (setup).
- Connect and check that an IP-check site shows Israel.
- Open your hospital's portal. If a login form appears, the connection problem is solved.
Our address is a static IP from a range of Israeli residential addresses. Sites flag addresses like these less often than the data-centre addresses of ordinary VPNs, though no site promises to accept them (residential IP vs a regular VPN).
What a VPN doesn't fix
- SMS codes. To receive SMS codes you will also need an Israeli phone number; see SMS codes from Israel abroad.
- The images themselves. Portals show reports; according to Hillel Yaffe, a disc with the images comes from the institute where the scan was done.
- Old or restricted documents. At Sheba and Rambam a psychiatric file is released only with a psychiatrist's approval, and whatever isn't in the portal only the records department can issue. For which other Israeli sites are closed from abroad, see the table from our check.

Which hospital portals open from abroad?
In our check on 23 October 2026, Ichilov's personal medical record and the Shaare Zedek patient portal opened from abroad. Sheba Connect, Rambam4U, the whole Assuta site and the login pages of the government hospitals on the Apollo platform (Wolfson, the Galilee Medical Center, Hillel Yaffe, Shamir, Poriya, Ziv, Bnai Zion, Barzilai, Mazor and Abarbanel) did not.
Can I get a hospital discharge letter without the portal?
Yes. Under the Patient's Rights Law the hospital's medical records department issues copies, and Sheba and Rambam, for example, take requests by email with a copy of your ID. At Sheba documents from the last 5 years cost ₪10; at Rambam the fee follows the Health Ministry tariff.
Does the portal have the scans themselves, or only the report?
According to Hillel Yaffe, its Apollo system holds only the radiologist's reports; a disc with the images comes from the institute where the scan was done. Sheba and Rambam don't say whether the images themselves are in the portal.
